The dog days of summer

Summer is finally here! The snow has melted, the flowers are in bloom, you’re officially thawed out from winter, and the sun is out in full force. That means it’s nonstop beach time! What’s not to love? Lots of sand to run around in, water to cool you off when you get too hot, and ample space to take naps. Luckily, these are all of the reasons your human loves beach too.

Here are a few other reasons to take your human on some summer beach adventures immediately!

Sometimes you don’t care about getting sand in your mouth because you found buried treasure and are now considering life as a pirate.

Even if it might be a little harder to get there, you’re always making new friends at the beach.

Summertime can always teach you new tricks—like blowing bubbles with your nose!

It’s hard to be more relaxed than laying around in the sun; until your family decides to bury you in sand and you wish you stayed home in the air conditioning.

The perfect summer nap: drying off in the sun sleeping on the warm sand. Ignore the wet dog small.

Me: “Take a cute picture of me in the water so I can post it on Instagram.”

When you overestimate how big the wave is going to be and decide you’re done swimming for the day. At least you’ll have the perfect wavy beach hair afterward.

After swimming all day, you realize you have all summer to play at the beach and can’t contain your excitement!

You can take the dog to the beach, but you can’t take the derp out of the dog.

Just pile up the right amount of sand for your pillow and rest up from all the laying around you’ve done. It’s exhausting.

When you feel something touch your foot in the water and you question why you ever left the secure comfort of your towel.

Mark Carrott Odden is a student and freelance designer/photographer with an overt obsession with dogs—particularly Great Danes and Newfoundlands. His childhood dog, a rescued border collie mix, shared the same tinge-of-the-ginger hair color as his family, so it was meant to be. His affinity for puns and stringent grammarista tendencies help bring levity to the internet because there is always time to watch one more cat video.
