Get to know your Instagrammer: @talk_to_the_paw

Katniss Thunder Paw, @talk_to_the_paw, is a ridiculously photogenic tabby cat from Minnesota who loves hats or bow ties, and hates Mondays just as much as we do. She might just be our spirit animal.

We got to ask Katniss’ mom a few questions:

Q: When did you start on Instagram and what inspired you to start?

A: I started my Instagram account a little over 2 years ago to see what all the hoopla was about, and shortly thereafter my teenage son wanted to have an account. Of course, as a parent, I was going to follow him, but he would not have his mother following him so the account for Katniss was born!

Q: What is your pet's favorite place?

A: Katniss loves to be where ever I am! I feel guilty when I have to get my day started because she follows me everywhere. She could easily lead to me to the life of a couch potato!

Q: What's the hardest thing about photographing a pet?

A: The lighting is my biggest struggle! Katniss is the perfect model and loves to work for treats, but if the lighting isn't right, I don't get the photo I want. I'm never happy with the results when I use a flash.

Q: How would you describe your pet in three words?

A: Patient - Loving - Chicken

Q: What do you love most about having a pet?

A: I love that she loves me as much as I love her; sometimes she takes care of me as much as I take care of her too.

Q: What's your favorite way to "spoil" your pet?

A: Katniss LOVES chicken! She likes to hang out with her paws tucked under at the island counter while I cook dinner and it almost never goes unrewarded.

Q: What was your first pet?

A: My very first pet was a gerbil! My dad wasn't much for pets, and I had to beg for the gerbil. He once told my sister and I we could get a St. Bernard because "they didn't go to the bathroom," and as soon as we exclaimed that they did, he added St. Bernard’s to the list of pets we couldn't have. True story!

Q: What is it like when someone, in person, recognizes your pet from Instagram?

A: I actually get a little embarrassed; I never opened the account for personal fame of any kind, and I don't think of myself as any more special than anyone else. I always try to be grateful and appreciate that I have fans and that they think Katniss is so special.

Q: Which celebrity is your pet most like?

A: I have a few names that have been tossed out by other people such as Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and other classic film actresses. I kind of think of her Instagram personality as a cross between Marilyn Monroe and the Queen of Hearts; she's got a classic kind of a personality with a little edge. In reality, she's most like the friend you share a cup of coffee with at Starbucks that never orders anything different and never offers to pay, but you love them for it anyway because you know you can always count on them.
