How Dog Health Insurance Works
At Figo Pet Insurance, we want dog insurance to be easy to understand. Choose from one of three plans and customize your reimbursement percentage and annual deductible to best suit your budget. When there is an unexpected illness or injury to your dog, submit the paid veterinarian bills to us. Depending on your plan selections, we may reimburse you up to 100 percent of your covered charges. Unlike other dog insurance plans, we even provide the option of covering accident-or illness-related veterinary exam fees and consultations.
Like most dog insurance plans, Figo excludes pre-existing conditions. And while we have short waiting periods for new illnesses and accidents, they begin the day after you purchase coverage. For a general list of what is covered and what isn’t covered, see below.
Here's the deal: If your pet has a new covered accident, injury or illness, you may be reimbursed for the following medical expenses.
Exam & Consultation Fees (optional)
Emergency & Hospitalization
Hereditary & Congenital Conditions
Prosthetics & Orthopedics
What's Not Covered
Here’s the other deal: At Figo, we have nothing to hide. We think it is just as important to show you what isn't covered.
Routine, Wellness or Preventative Care
Spaying or Neutering
Breeding, Pregnancy or Giving Birth
Cloned Pets or Cloning Procedures
Coprophagia (the medical term for "eating poop")
Health Insurance Plans For Puppies And Dogs
We spend more on our dogs than ever before. Pet parents, like you, spend an estimated $18 billion a year on veterinary expenses alone. While the amount may be shocking, the fact that we are willing to spend so much to keep our pups healthy isn't surprising. After all, our dogs are companions and family—a bond spans the duration of our lives (and theirs). And when we are faced with an expensive procedure or treatment, without a financial safety net, it can be extremely difficult and even heartbreaking.
Healthcare for Puppies
As early as 8 weeks, you can cover your rambunctious pup with a puppy insurance plan from Figo. Plans cover new injuries or illness—so, if Fido eats a sock or has a bout of diarrhea, simply visit the veterinarian and submit your paid vet bill for reimbursement. Puppy insurance frees you up to concentrate on more important things, like puppy playtime and snuggles!
Healthcare for Adult and Senior Dogs
The oldest dog on record lived to be almost 30 years old—off the chart in doggy years! Figo’s dog insurance plans have no upper age limit. As dogs age, they become more prone to experience senior health issues—like hip dysplasia or diabetes. With a dog insurance plan from Figo, this coverage will not end simply because of age, giving you more time together.
Is Dog Insurance Worth It?
While researching pet insurance companies, you may ask yourself if a pet insurance plan is worth the cost. Here’s one customer’s dog insurance story:
"Since adopting my 4-year-old bulldog/pug mix, Guff, I've unfortunately had to file a few claims. First, he snorted a foxtail. Most recently, he had some vomiting that required a trip to the ER. I was most grateful to have Figo. When Guff's vet noticed potentially damaged teeth, it turned out the little guy needed six extractions! I was reimbursed almost $900 on a $1400 bill. I was very happy to have them! All my claims have been processed in a very timely fashion. Having Figo has given me great peace of mind because I don't have to worry about being able to afford getting Guff care when he needs it.” - John H.
