Music is known as the universal language, but just how far that reach extends within the animal kingdom is largely up for debate. Does your beagle get down to Beethoven while your cat can't get enough of Cardi B? Unsurprisingly, research has shown that pets do in fact react positively to music, depending on the genre. When a wide variety of music was played for shelter dogs in a study by psychologist Deborah Wells, the results were as one might expect. Heavy metal was shown to produce agitation in the animals, while classical induced a noticeable calming effect. If you're a music-loving pet owner, you likely enjoy a large library of carefully curated Spotify playlists for yourself. Why shouldn't your pet? Enter: Spotify's pet playlists!
Spotify's Pet Playlists
A few years ago, Spotify unveiled a creative solution for pet parents who needed to leave their pets at home but wanted to add a little ambiance for their couch-bound friends. This feature was aptly named Spotify for Pets: "...a playlist for your pet based on the music you love".
The first frame invites users to pick their pet - and allows you to choose from a variety of animals, including iguanas.
From there, you'll enter some temperament details about your pet. For example, are they relaxed or energetic - curious or apathetic? Finally, Spotify's algorithm combs through your playlists, syncs your pet's behavior with your own musical taste, and voila: your companion is ready to jam!
You can even share your playlist with friends and family using Twitter, Instagram, and more! Ready to create your own?
If you're looking for more tail-wagging ways to entertain your pet while you're out, try one of Figo's custom Spotify playlists, like Dog Days.
